Agartala, July 8 (TIWN): Treatment offered to the patients suffering from malaria in the state is a sham, Working President of the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee Ashish Kumar Saha said today.
Interacting with the media after a visit at the GB Hospital this afternoon, Saha said that most patients admitted at GB Hospital were left on the floors without any proper medical attention. Almost all malaria patients were not given the assured special diet, he said.
A three-member delegation led by Opposition leader Sudip Roy Barman on Tuesday visited the GB Hospital to take stock of the latest treatment
Asked about the latest situation in the hospital, PCC working president Saha said that twelve children, suspected to have contacted malaria, were referred from Mungiyakami Primary Health Centre (PHC)on Monday. Seven among them were found positive.
“Despite assurances from Health Minister Badal Choudhury about clean institutional healthcare during his recent visits at GB Hospital, IGM Hospital etc, we have found that most lavatories were as bad as ever. Patients are wriggling beside these highly insanitary spots. And we don’t have working fans on the top floor of the super specialty ward”, Saha said.
He added that Chief Minister Manik Sarkar had tried to throw the entire responsibility of the health disaster which cost 61 lives till date upon new Health Minister Badal Choudhury. “The CM chose to roam across the state for panchayat election campaign. He didn’t visit a single location where malaria affected at its worst. This is frustrating, inhuman and most unfortunate”, the Congress veteran stated.
The PCC delegation demanded the CM to accept full responsibility of the malaria disaster and take necessary steps to stop further escalation of situation.
