Agartala, Oct 1 (TIWN): The Tripura Cabinet on Tuesday decided to draft a policy on religious structures on public places in the State and will frame guidelines for removal, relocation and regularization of such existing structures, Finance Minister Badal Chowdhury said.
Speaking to reporters at Civil Secretariat the minister said, “ The draft policy on religious structures will be drafted as per the Supreme Court directives in a bid to regulate the unauthorized religious structures already existing on public streets, public parks, and other public places in the State”.
He stated that it will enable the State Government to deal with unauthorized religious structures, which already exist in various categories of public places for removal, relocation and regularization of such structures.
The minister informed that a committee under District Magistrate will survey all the unauthorized religious structures and submit the report to the government.
He also informed that that the Supreme Court in a special leave petition© No. 8519/2006 Government of India versus State of Gujarat and Ors. Directed all States to frame a State policy regarding prevention of unauthorized construction of temple, church, mosque or Gurudwaras, etc., on public streets, public parks or other public places, etc., as well as regulation of already existing construction of religious nature on the above premises.
