AGARTALA, JAN 14 (TIWN): The celebration of Makar Sankranti with burning of burighar is one of the rich most traditions in Tripura. Celebration must be there, but it should not be in an illegal way. On Friday late night celebrations were noted in some localities under municipality. Loudspeakers with music playing high went through out the midnight. Police have turned a blind eye to the disturbance been caused.
The Tripura High Court has already directed the State govt. and the Pollution Control Board to implement lawregulating noise pollution or face action for contempt.
On July 15, 2016 a division bench of the Tripura High Court comprising Acting Chief Justice T. Vaiphei and Justice Subhashish Talapatra said pressure/multi-tone horns of vehicles and any other sound producing device which give an unduly harsh, shrill, loud or alarming noise are totally banned in Tripura. Under the law, the authorities must take stern action like seizure of the equipment which is used for noise pollution.
Tripura Police Dept. also issued a general notice under section 81(2) of the Tripura Police Act 2007 prohibiting any noise causing breach in peace with any person violating the same to be liable for prosecution. The order is to remain in force till 30-06-2017.
