UDAIPUR, JUNE 13(TIWN): District and Session Judge Ashis Pal convicted two rapists on Friday and ordered 10 years of imprisonment along with a penalty of Rs5000/- each. The two rapists were involved in a brutal incident of raping one House Wife Basana Das, W/O- Rajib Das of East Ludhua under Sabroom Police Station.
The incident took place on 1st November 2012 when the rapists Matilal Das,S/O- Karuna Das and Ratan Das, S/O- Arun Das of the same village forcibly took the victim to a near by jungle and brutally raped her couple of times. The victim was returning home after attending the Hearing of Electoral Rolls from Baishnab Pur Tehsil at around 5pm.
Basana was threatened to be killed if she told any one about this. However, Basana informed all about the incident to her husband. In the evening of the fateful day the victim lodged a complaint in the Sabroom Police Station and acting on it police arrested Matilal Das on 3rd November 2012 and Ratan Das surrendered on 5th November 2012. After the investigation police submitted the chargesheet before the court. During the trial the District & Session Judge Ashis Pal recorded the statement from 16 witnesses.
On Friday the Magistrate convicted Matilal Das and Ratan Das under section 376(2)(G) of the IPC and sent them to ten years' of imprisonment. The Magistrate also imposed a penalty of Rs5000/- on Matilal and Ratan and further six months imprisonment if the amount is not paid. On behalf of the Govt Public Prosecutor Biplab Kanti Datta was the lawyer in this case.
