NEW DELHI / AGARTALA Nov 15 (TIWN) Continuing its criticism of the demonetisation drive, the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) on Tuesday said the currency spike by the Narendra Modi government has created anarchy in the country.
"The consensus is that whatever has been done in demonetisation, has been done without any preparation," CPI-M General Secretary Sitaram Yechury said.
Pointing to Prime Minister Modi's plea to give him 50 more days to tide over the cash crunch, Yechury wondered about the fate of the 90 percent Indians who live on cash transactions.
"If it will take you 50 more days then what are the people going to do in that period?
"Ninety per cent of India, from fishermen to auto rickshaw drivers, all live on cash transactions. If you are going to stop them, and since there is no alternative, you are creating anarchy in the country," Yechury added.
