AGARTALA, June 2 (TIWN): The family court would pass its verdict on the anticipatory bail plea of first class judicial magistrate Pratik Das Chowdhury, accused of a dowry case, tomorrow.
To evade arrest, Pratik has applied for anticipatory bail in the family court. Based on the petition, family court judge Goutam Debnath today heard case but did not pass any verdict on the plea.
The court asked the Investigating Officer (IO) to submit Case Dairy (CD) of the case. It is expected that the court will pass the verdict on the anticipatory bail after examining the CD tomorrow.
Advocate Arun Chandra Bhowmik and Samrat Kar Bhowmik moved the case in favour of Pratik Das Chowdhury while government advocate Pradip Deb stood in favour of the victim.
Sources said, the court had asked the IO to submit CD of the case by May 29, a day after filing of FIR against Pratik but police could not do this. Now, the police want to get the accused in their custody for interrogation.
In an FIR, Sampa Paul Chowdhury, wife of Pratik Das Chowdhury, the first class judicial magistrate posted at Khowai had alleged that she was tortured physically and mentally by her husband and in-laws. In the complaint, she alleged her husband used to torture her for a vehicle.
Sampa, a mother of seven-year old girl, also alleged her husband used to force her to consume alcohol and Pratip used to remain busy in talking with another girl/ woman.
Meanwhile, hundreds of supporters under the banner of All India Democratic Women Association (AIDWA), today staged demonstration in front of the family court seeking immediate arrest. They demanded exemplary punishment for accused judge.
