Agartala, May 30 (TIWN): In the face of labourers’ fury, a tea estate owner- Suresh Chowdhury left his office here today.
The Gopal Nagar Tea Estate in Sadar subdivision has been doing well at the sufferings of 250 odd labourers and its owner Mr. Chowdhury’s wealth is swallowing with every passing year.
However, labourers are not happy at the attitude of the management. “We are toiling hard to make the garden finally viable forgetting all odds. Of late, we came to know the management is not depositing PF money to the PF office”, said Surendra Tanti, a tea plucker of the tea estate.
According to him, labourers are less paid and that too payment is not made on regular basis causing hardships for their families. Even, the dwelling huts of labourers are in deplorable condition.
“We had tried to get minimum facilities from the management but it did not pay heed on our grievances. Today, we will teach a lesson to owner Mr. Chowdhury”, said another aggrieved tea labourer.
Interestingly, before labourers could storm into owner’s office at BK Road near Rajdhani Hotel, the owner escaped from his chamber. However, the labourers are adamant to meet the owner as they have been pushed to the wall.
Till 3 pm, laborers were seen in front of the tea estate’s owner office but nobody meets the angry labourers. Though tension runs high in front of the office, no untoward incident is reported so far.
