AGARTALA, May 19 (TIWN): Despite so-called safety measures, a six-year old child died while his four-year sister is battling for life when a speedy Max vehicle dashed them at Rangacherra area under Sidhai police station this evening.
After the shocking incident, angry villagers rushed to spot and set the killer vehicle on fire stalling the vehicular movement on the busy Agartala-Simna road for one hour.
Diptanau Debbarma (6) along with his sister Sanchita Debbarma was proceeding towards Simna area. Around 5.40 pm, a speeding Max vehicle dashed them at Rangamura, just ahead of Khowai Chowmuhani resulting in brother-sister suffered injuries.
They were taken to Mohanpur PHC from where they were shifted to GBP Hospital as their condition was stated to be critical. While Dipatanu breathed his last at GBP Hospital, his sister- Sanchita is struggling for live.
As the news of incident spread, villagers gathered there, forced the passengers to get down and set the killer vehicle on fire. The vehicle was completely gutted before the police reached at the spot.
Angry villagers also blockaded the busy Agartala-Simna for one hour. Several Khowai and Simna bound vehicles stranded on the roadside due to the blockade. As the tension runs high, SDPO Rupan Chakma and Officer in Charge (OC), Sidhai police station rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
When contacted, the Duty Officer confirmed the incident and claimed the situation is under control.
