Agartala, May 17(TIWN): To conduct Project Guarantee Test (PGT), the Palatana power plant would be placed under complete shut down from today midnight, according to official sources.
From today midnight, the plant would place under complete shut down for conducting necessary test and the PGT would start from May 20, said an official of OTPC.
“As per the plan, it will take a week time to complete the PGT if everything falls in place. And the PGT will be done in presence of BHEL engineers”, he said.
The state receives 82 MW power from the Palatana unit-I which produces 250 MW power. The power service would be affected due to the shut down of the Palatana plant. As part of contingency plan, Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd (TSECL) has decided to buy additional power from central sector.
“Around 50/60 MW power will be purchased on daily basis during the shut down of the Palatana plant”, said an official of TSECL. At present the state requires 240 MW power at the pick-hour.
In spite of the purchase of additional power, there would be shortage of 50/60 MW power and this could be neutralized by power cut ranging from 40 minutes to one hour.
Meanwhile, Palatana unit-II is expected to come up by next three to four months.
