AGARTALA, Aug 13 (TIWN): Although the Central Govt. is ready to give its full support to boost Tripura’s bamboo industry, but Tripura Govt. yet to say anything in reply to that offer. During Suresh Prabhu’s arrival Tripura received a golden opportunity for its bamboo industry promotion as with railway service state Tripura was offered to export its bamboo products. But Tripura Govt. didn’t organized any industrial meet with the central govt. after that. Neither no advise was taken from the Central Govt. Before a year (in 2015), after watching Tripura Govt.’s full eagerness to promote the bamboo industry here, also observing Tripura’s budgets priority given more on to the bamboo products, DoNER Minister Jitendra Singh first expressed his desire to make Tripura a ‘Bamboo-State’, during a press meet held at Civil Secretariat along with Chief Secretary Y P Sing. However, in the financial year 2016-17, Tripura Govt. pressurized upon both rubber and bamboo promotion.

But during the Agartala-Delhi Express train inauguration ceremony held at Agartala Railway Station on July 31^st Suresh Prabhu, Union Railway Minister told Tripura Govt. that “Bamboo is ideologically and ecologically supportive. So preferring bamboo products will be ideological as bamboo is a grass product, rather than a timber product”.

As now Tripura has railway service, by which Tripura Govt. is trying to import fuel into Tripura, so Prabhu asked Tripura Govt. to utilize the opportunity to export the bamboo products. But Tripura Govt. is yet silent about the issue. 

However, the reason behind the Tripura Govt’s silence is also that Tripura not at all has yet any bamboo products, under Govt.’s organization. Tripura Forest Dept land yet to adopt bamboo as a serious source for Industry.  Due to lack of vision, under a dumb Forest Minister Naresh Jamatia bamboo is getting extinct from Tripura’s culture.

Due to lack of Govt.’s observance Bamboo products yet remained under privatization, resulting high bamboo product rates in Urban haats as Purbassa.

Many times many experts gave ideas how to promote Bamboo industry in Tripura. Suresh Prabhu also said, “It’s a matter of luck that Tripura has such an environment in support of Bamboo cultivation. So use the Greenery to promote such a beautiful product inside Tripura”.

But as assumed CPI-M talks more rather than action, after the 5 days of inauguration Tripura Govt. said nothing to the central Govt.  regarding Bamboo-Promotion.
