Agartala, July 29 (TIWN / IANS) Tripura Governor Tathagata Roy and Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on Thursday condoled the passing away of distinguished writer and social activist Mahasweta Devi, who died in a Kolkata nursing home.
Roy in his condolence message said Mahasweta Devi's death is an irreparable loss of the country's literary world.
Sarkar said her writings echoed the life of the most downtrodden and she fought for justice and equality for the oppressed and backward people.
"Mahasweta Devi had been worked for the welfare of the hapless people and she would be remembered for a long time for her creation and works," Sarkar said.
Tripura Information and Cultural Affairs Minister Bhanulal Saha said Mahasweta Devi thought for those people for whom many others do not have any concern.
