AGARTALA, July 1 (TIWN): Senior doctors on Friday in the state paid tribute to legendary physician Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy at IMA house to observe Doctors day.
As a part of the day, the doctors paid floral tribute to portrait of legendary physician Dr Bidhan Roy at IMA house.
It is to be mentioned here that the first day of the month of July is observed as the Doctor's Day in India. It is to commemorate the birth and the death day of legendary physician Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy, who was also the second chief minister of West Bengal and is called the state's architect for his visionary leadership.
The Congress leader had also taken part in India's freedom movement and joined Mahatma Gandhi's Civil Disobedience Movement in the 1930s. Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy was born on July 1 and passed away too on this date Dr Roy was born on July 1, 1982, and also died on the same date 80 years later. He was honoured with the Bharat Ratna Award in 1961. The Government of India declared July 1 as the Doctor's Day in 1991 as a mark of respect to Dr Roy.
The Doctor's Day is observed today to lay emphasis on the value of doctors in our lives. It is an occasion to give them their due respect through commemorating one of their greatest representatives. India has shown remarkable improvements in the medical field and July 1 pays a perfect tribute to all the doctors who have made relentless efforts towards achieving this goal irrespective of the odds.
