AGARTALA, June 28 (TIWN): International bio-diversity day has been observed at Pragna Bhawan on Tuesday.
The programme was inaugurated by Chief Secretary Y P Sing by lightning up the candle. Other dignitaries were also presented at there.
On May 22, 1992, the text of the Convention on Biological Diversity was adopted by the of the United Nations at a conference in Nairobi, Kenya. Since 2001, the International Day for Biological Diversity is celebrated each year on the anniversary of this date.
A wide range of events are organized globally to increase the understanding of the important role of biodiversity in our future.
However, Tripura’s bio-diversity in under threat due to increasing rubber plantation across state.
In this situation bio-diversity day observation is unfortunately remained fruitless.
