KAMALPUR, June 23 (TIWN): Marachara market remained one of the oldest market areas of the sub-division. But during the black days of terrorist activities it and along with the disturbance by the cross-border thefts, the market lost its importance. After the age of terrorism ended it became lively again.
Now, as the Kamalpur-Ambassa-Marachara road became operational almost two years ago, so the importance of the market gained a great momentum. More than hundred of businessmen had their permanent stalls at the market. Moreover, almost hundred vegetable sellers and fish, dry fish and meat sellers used to open their stalls every day. The people from adjacent five to six villages used to meet their daily necessities from the market.
But the infrastructure of the market turned deplorable. Especially the old market area suffered the most. In the market area, the roads got no side drains. As a result, the rain water got lodged in the lower old market area. Besides, the roads also got broken by the rain water. Moreover, the market stalls and the entire market area got clumsy and wastes and litters remained spread in the market area.
Still, neither the ruling party nor the administration found keen to rectify the problems. The school-students and commoners had to move over those wastes and dilapidated roads filled with ditches and minor accidents continued to happen.
