TIWN June 18, 2016

AGARTALA, June 18 (TIWN): Year 2016 has made record for the price hike of pineapples. Reportedly 1 small size pineapple is selling at Rs. 30.
People are buying 2 pineapples at Rs. 60/-
Reprtedly, hundreds of pineapple growers are reeling under crisis like situation due to lack of proper mechanism to sale their products.
Moreover, pineapple exporting has been halted due the NH-44’s pathetic condition.
Moreover, pineapple cultivation has become a tradition for Darlong ethnic tribe living at 82 Mile, Kanchancherra, Darchoi and Nalakata under Kumarghat subdivision.
Hundreds of acres of land are covered with juicy pineapple in different sloppy tribal hamlets in Kumarghat subdivision. And, villagers used to earn good money during the season but the situation has changed a lot over the years.
Unfortunately, it seems the government is not interested in lending helping hand to pineapple growers.
That is the reason the rubber cultivators losing interest in this cultivation to earn their livelihood.
Besides, most of the growers have lost interest in raising pineapple cultivation fearing heavy loss. This is also another cause of price hike of pineapples.
