Agartala, May 2 (TIWN / IANS) A Tripura Police official and commandant of the elite Tripura State Rifles (TSR) has been suspended by the state government for alleged financial irregularities, an official said here on Monday.
TSR eighth battalion commandant Dilip Debbarma was suspended for taking money from troopers, after falsely promising high returns in gold business, a police official said.
He said there were other allegations of wrongdoing against Debbarma, who was suspended from service after a departmental probe.
The TSR, trained for counter-insurgency operations, was constituted in March 1984 to deal with terrorism. Seventy-five percent of its personnel are from Tripura while the remaining come from across the country.
The TSR has been deployed in many states across India during elections and international sports events.
