TIWN

UDAIPUR, April 14 (TIWN) : Udaipur city which is better known as the "city of temple" holds an ancient temple here, dedicated in the name of Goddess Durga. This temple is well popular for Basanti Puja during Spring season. This temple however historically known as Hari Mandir.
The temple is taken care by a particular family namely Deb Bari since kings’ era.
A temple with difference can be seen on the south bank of Gomati (at the northeastern side of Jagannath Dighi).
Nevertheless, as far as embellishment on the temple surface is concerned, it'll definitely stand independent of other temples in Udaipur.
Floral-ornamentation was a feature on the wall of the core-chamber. Terracotta images of six armed Devi and figure mounted on lion are some worth mention. No other temple at Udaipur features terracotta.
However, on the day of Maha Ashtami people thronged to worship Devi Basnati, who is just another formation of Devi Durga.
It’s to be mentioned here that not only in Udaipur, but whole Tripura has been geared up to celebrate New Year, also Basanti puja. This puja is based on the belief that Durga Puja was originally held during Spring season or Basant.
However, this Udaipur temple is although not so popular anymore, but everyday rituals and mantra chanting are held here with full of devotion.
