AGARTALA, April 5 (TIWN): Along with the state, people of Agartala have also celebrated Baruni festival on Tuesday.
It is to be mentioned here that the festival is celebrated on the thirteenth day of the dark half of (Phairen). It is devoted to worship of Lord Shiva. It is introduced by Chandrakirti in the nineteenth century.
People in Agartala take bath in the rivers to complete the custom.
According to tradition, it is a custom to take ritual bath in the river Ganges. The bath is taken by the pilgrims in Chinggoi stream.
After taking the bath they climb the mountain at night by the northward route and follow the opposite side route for descending. The phallic stone is in the Shiva shrine on the mountain.
However, the pilgrims present their offerings to the Shivalinga. Besides, kirtanas were also arranged in the temple.
The crowd is massive and provides a festive look on this isolated spot.
However, huge number of people thronged in to the temples to celebrate the festival and offer prayer to lord shiva.
State on Tuesday observed the festival with great enthusiasm with devotes throngs in to the temple.
