AGARTALA, March 15 (TIWN): Hurdles in travelling to other parts of the country by road, rail and air are increasingly prompting the people of Tripura to go to other parts of India. Several hundred passengers, including serious patients, job seekers, students, bridegrooms and tourists have been stranded in Agartala, Kolkata and Guwahati in view of the non-availability of air tickets for want of aircraft in the early hours of the day.In a DO Letter MP Jiten wrote to Union Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju Pusupati to urgently intervene for necessary permission by the Airport Authority of India(AAI) for operation of air traffic at Agartala Airport from the early hours of the day.
He further informed that AAI should not have any difficulty to allow the airliners to operate at any point of time, if they have aircrafts and managed to include any station in their schedule.
MP Jiten Chowdhury got informed by the Regional office of Indigo that they are refrained from operating an early morning flight from Kolkata to Agartala and back.
In his letter he also pointed out the traffic flow in the Kolkata-Agartala-Kolkata route, because of its geographical isolation.
The proposed operation by Indigo in the early hours from Kolkata shall be found as a great bonanza for the landlocked State, Tripura and also seek Minister’s personal intervention that the AAI is suitably instructed to do the necessary arrangements for the said operation on urgent basis.
