AGARTALA, March 10 (TIWN) : Police at Khowai Dist. conducted drive in various areas against illegal business of liquors and gambling, which were getting rampant at there.
Reportedly, on Thursday, Kalyanpur police, under Teliamura subdivision (Khowai Dist), being reported from the sources, conducted raids in many areas across Kalyanpur under the supervision of S/I Jakir Hossain.
The places, where police conducted raids are : Ghilatali, Kamal Nagar, Amar Coloni, Mohor Chara etc.
It’s to be mentioned here that from North Maharanipur, police have arrested one, named Ratan Debbarma, alleging that he is an agent for this gambling business. Along with him, police also recovered Rs. 7, 150/- cash.
Reportedly, he was running this illegal business since many moths. However, he is now under the police custody at Kalyanpur P S.
Moreover, another person namely Dulal Sing, S/O-Rakhal Sing has been arrested along with few others who were red handedly caught in this business with liquors.
However, local people are happy after the drive was undertaken by police at there. According the locals, police would conduct more and more such drives to diminish these kinds of illegal business at there.
It’s to be mentioned here that the entire Kalyanpur area has been gripped under gambling business. Incidents of gambling are increasing in Mohorcherra, Kamal Nagar, Totabari, Bagan Bazaar, Eiyakrai, RS Para, Ruprai etc Tribal based area under Kalyanpur PS.
Peoples from every part of society like teachers, students, employees do participate in gambling to earn more and therefore domestic violence against women are increasing rapidly day by day also.
