AGARTALA, March 3 (TIWN): Along with the nation, all the major jewellery shops of Tripura are observing three-day long strike.
Jewellery shops like P C Chandra, Tanishq, Senco Gold and other jewellery association has participated at the three day long strike.
Reportedly, the strike has been observed protesting over the proposed re-imposition of the 1 percent of excise duty on gold and diamond jewellery and requirement of PAN card mandatory for any kind of transaction of Rs. 2 lakh and above by the consumers.
According to the reports, there are over 300 associations which includes over 3 lakh manufacturers, retainers, artisans among others, participated in the stir across the country.
The strike is mainly called to protest against the government's decision to impose PAN card for purchases above Rs two lakh.
Reportedly, all these restriction has put a pressure over the sales of jewellery mainly in the semi-urban and rural parts of the states or the nation.
Besides, nearly 50% of gold jewellers' business generally originates from the small towns and thousands of workers and artisans associated with the trade would face deep financial problems.
It has been mentioned that impose of 1 percent of excise duty on gold and diamond jewellery and requirement of PAN card has affected the sale of jewellery all across the nation. However, this has lead to great loss to the jewellery retailers.
However, earlier also one day long strike has been observed when all the major jewellery retailers like P C Chandra, Tanishq, Senco Gold and other jewellery association participated. However, the strike is expected to continue till Friday.
