AGARTALA, Jan 18 (TIWN): Tipraland Movement Co-ordination Committee on Monday organized a Raj Bhawan Abhiyan, with a demand for tipraland at Agartala.
Young boys and girls from various interior parts of the state has joined rally, demanding for separate Tipraland.
It has been mentioned that the rally has been organized with the demand of the separate tipraland and to place the demand to Governor Tathagata Roy.
The rally has begun from Vivekananda Stadium and has been stopped by the police at the Circuit house.
A five member team has visited the governor and placed the demand.
With the aim to strengthen its demand for a separate land to achieve ‘Tipra-land’ with areas under tribal autonomous district council to protect the rights and identity of Tripura’s tribal population.
It is to be mentioned here that earlier a memorandum has been submitted to Union Home Minister on August, 2009; November, 2009, demanding for separate Tipra land.
Later, the same memorandum was continued in October, 2010; March, 2011; June, 2011; December 2011; October, 2012 and August, 2013.
In the memorandum, it has been claimed that infiltration of foreign nationals in Tripura before during and after the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971 left a remarkable impact on the demographic condition of Tripura.
It has been mentioned that the demand for the separate Tipra land is to safeguard the existence of the tribal residence of Tripura.
Besides, the organization also demanded to provide shelter to the 35, 000 reang refuge in the State who are residing in the camp at Kanchanpur. They also demanded to allow the reang refuge in the State for their life time and to reside here permanently.
However, Tipraland is the name of a proposed state in India, proposed by the Tipra people of Tripura. The indigenous Tipra people demanded an autonomous district, which they finally achieved on March 23, 1979.
