KAMALPUR, Jan 13 (TIWN): The hurly-burly of police against the contraband dealers almost ceased for last one year here at Kamalpur. Not only the Kamalpur police station, but the police stations on the NEC road especially Kumarghat, Khowai etc. remained their fingers’ crossed about the raids against the contrabands. As a result, the dealing of contrabands excelled significantly through the NEC from Kumarghat up to Agartala.
The smooth movement on the NEC road opened up a new and comparatively smoother corridor for the contraband dealers in the state. From Kumarghat, the consignments took the NEC road and smoothly reached up to Agartala. And then those psychotropic substances easily reached their destinations at the border adjacent areas of Sonamura, Belonia and other parts. The business became so much smooth that, the consignments started to ply on the road throughout the night.
Almost a year ago, after much ado, the police had adopted some initiatives. The police of the Kamalpur police station repeatedly attained success in seizing such consignments along with the dealers or their representatives. Then, the police of Kumarghat and Khowai police station also adopted some measures. The police stations of Churaibari, Panisagar, Pecharthal, Manughat, Teliamura etc. also became a bit active. And the police remained in the media caption often with their success stories. An idea also started to grow up that, the police, at last, became conscious about their duties and dignity.
But the notion dashed almost six months later, as the raids ceased. For a period of last six to eight months, no police station on the NEC road caught the caption for success against contrabands. But it remained a matter of mystery that, the Special Branch of the police used to inform the top cops about the dealings. More importantly, the intelligence branches of central Para-military forces and central intelligence agencies several times warned the state government about this smooth trafficking of the contrabands. But all those resulted in nothing as the cops remained in deep slumber.
It got speculated that, the police got inactive for the under-table transactions with the dealers. And, when they pocketed huge profit, they never bothered for the youths of the state.
