SABROOM, Dec 22 (TIWN): Tripura, which is yet to make a mark in the manufacturing sector, has been gaining ground in the bilateral trade with export volume swelling with the every passing months.
The first ever border trade between Tripura (India) and Bangladesh at Srinagar border haat under South district comes as boon for land-locked Tripura with the haat securing a good response from both the sides. The trade has been gradually picking up its trade with Tripura aims to take a daily transaction of over Rs. 22 lakhs.
The border haat will cater to the needs of the people living within a five km radius.
Sixteen locally produced goods have been initially shortlisted which includes agricultural and horticultural crops, spices, poultry and dairy products, cottage industry items, furniture items, and handicrafts and hand-looms.
It is expected that the border haats will not only increase bilateral trade but also boost people to people contacts between the two countries.
The business day of Srinagar border haat on Tuesday has received a very good response from both the sides of Tripura and Bangladesh with a gradually increasing participation of the traders at the haat.
The customs people and the concerned security forces has been keeping a close vigil regularly at the border area and since the haat opened for the traders no untoward incident has occurred yet.
The trade volume during the second business day at the border haat, the trade volume has been gradually increasing at every haat day .
Today during the business day from the Indian part the volumes rested at Rs. 19 lakh, while from the Bangladesh’s part the volume of the trade rested at Rs. 35 lakh. However, during the business day Bangladeshi vendors opened 60 stalls while Indian venders set up 30 stalls at the Srinagar border haat.
