AIZAWL / AGARTALA, Nov 24 (TIWN): Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Minister Jitendra Singh on Monday said the Central government was committed to develop Mizoram as the 'Bamboo state of India'."Mizoram is blessed with very high production of bamboo, which can be turned into a major source, not only for furniture but also for paper supply to the rest of the country," Singh said while addressing a press conference at Aizawl. This could not only generate revenue for the state but also create opportunities for youth outside India, he said. The DoNER minister added that he had already initiated an effort to reinforce Bamboo Development Board of India. He said the successive governments had neglected Mizoram's vast potentials and this was an opportunity for the people of the state to ensure adequate implementation of various pro-poor central schemes initiated by the Modi government. In Tripura under Manik Sarkar led CPI-M Govt's 22 yr rule, Tripura's famous bamboo plantations were destroyed by uncontrolled rubber plantations by CPI-M cadres. As a result, Mizoram and other NE states taking advantage to become India's leading bamboo state.
