AGARTALA, Nov 19 (TIWN): Pradesh Congress recalled the services of the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi at a function here to mark her 98th birth anniversary on Thursday at Congress Bhawan.

Addressing the party supporters at the congress bhawan on Thursday opposition leader Sudip Roy barman said that her leadership qualities were worth emulating. Her contributions to the country could be hardly exaggerated.

He also said that late Prime Minister had implemented many welfare measures for the uplift of the poor and the people still remember her for the quality of work done by her.

Opposition leader Sudip Roy Burman inaugurated the programme by garlanding the portrait of Indira Gandhi at congress bhawan. Speaking on the occasion Sudip Roy Burman said that the contribution by the Congress then under the leadership of Indira Gandhi was tremendous. She dedicated her life to the nation for the poorest of the poor. He also admired her work regarding land reforms and her revolutionary step for centralization of banks in those days. He added that today’s youth should come forward to serve her dream for the upliftment of society and poor people. 

The dignitaries also paid floral tributes paid to Indira Gandhi at Gandhi ghat and sang national anthem. Working President Ashis Saha in his address highlighted the achievements of Indira Gandhi and talked about the initiatives taken by Indira Gandhi for taking India to the global arena.
