AGARTALA , Nov 13 (TIWN): Residents of Pecharthal RD Block area under Unakoti District organized a road blockade on NH-44 road at 9 am for seeking pure drinking water.
A section of villagers alleged that they have been facing acute drinking water crisis for over five years. Despite several requests, CPI-M ruled Panchayat and block authorities did not take any initiative to solve the long-term problem, they said.
At such situation, the villagers are passing days by drinking poor quality water of ponds, river and other water bodies located in the area. All the pipelines for water supply are lying in poor condition for long time, they added.
After a period of three hours of road blockade, Executive Engineer of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DWS) Department, State Police rushed to the spot and withdrew the road blockade by assuring them to supply drinking water by mobile tankers.
