AGARTALA, Nov 5 (TIWN): All of a sudden major renovation works are being done on war footing at GBP Hospital and Agartala Government Medical College. Not only special attention are taken to provide better medical facilities in the hospital, besides initiatives are taken to give facelift to the hospital. Seeing the work patients and relatives of patients are surprised. All works like painting the entire hospital, cleaning garbages are carried out day and night. Why all sudden the works are done on war footing? When being asked the principal of the medical college Prof. K.K Kundu, he said that at any day Medical Council of India (MCI) can visit the college and the hospital. When they are coming the date is not mentioned in advance. The facelift work is carried out assuming that the team may come within next couple of days. According to college sources the MCI team which arrived on June found some draw backs. Among the draw backs shortage of faculty members was the most prominent. During that the college authority some how managed to covered up the issue. But the visiting team told the college authority to make full arrangement of faculty members before their next visit.
According to sources, since the inception of the AGMC in 2005, ninety of Professor’s and Asst. Professor’s from outside the state did not attend any classes in the college.
To make them happy, the state government increased their pay but still they are not interested in teaching here.Meanwhile, the college authority have requested all faculty members to come in the state before arrival of MCI team. In total there are 24 faculty members from outside.
