AGARTALA, Oct 30 (TIWN): Workers of Jute Mill on Thursday alleged that the jute mill industry is facing prolonged power crises. The incident came in to limelight after a team of journalist noticed a wire connected with the main electricity line. Later, it has been discovered that the wire was a hook line. Seeing the team of journalist the workers of the Jute Mill tries to hide the illegal hook connection. According to the workers of the Jute Mill, the industry has been facing power crisis for prolonged many days as the transformers has stopped working. The workers further mentioned that they have placed several complains to the authority but till day no initiatives has been taken. Further, they claimed that the authority of the Electricity Department has assured them several times that the situation will be taken but till day they are running the industry with the help of hook line.The industry is facing power crisis before the Durga Puja celebration. Therefore, they had to depend on hook line, said a worker. Hooking is the most common method. Mostly, power theft is done by direct tapping from main electric line. The consumer taps into a power line from a point ahead of the energy meter and this energy consumption is unmeasured and procured with or without switches.When asked about the connection to the MD of the Jute Mill Industry, he refused o accept the fact about the illegal hook line connection.
Despite of several requests the electricity department fails to provide any kind of assistance to the industry.Incidents of power theft are increasing frequently in Tripura and mainly in the interior part of the state.
The localites mangle wires to the main public supply cables to provide electricity to scores of homes in different areas.
Working without electricity in the industry is really impossible, said a worker.
Normal life of people turns intolerable due to scorching heat and frequent load shedding and as a result power supply through hook line becomes a regular practice in the rural areas.
However, there are many families who are dependent over hook line connection of electricity.
