TIWN

KAMALPUR, Oct 16, (TIWN): Almost every year the contractors got their wages in the last moment on the eve of any celebration. And it resulted in heavy rush in the banks during last hours. This year, too, a large portion of contractors who got in work with PWD (R&B), DWS and Water Resource departments not got their bills still. Not only that many feared of not getting the bills before Puja. Moreover, the bribe-happy officials at the treasury kept the passed bills to them for pocketing some extra income. And without that extra, the officials and employees would not let a single bill to the banks. Now, the contractors had to pay the bribe and to have their bills.
On the other hand, the REGA workers’ wages saga remained a hot debated issue throughout the year. And on the eve of Puja many Panchayats yet not became able to pay the wages to their workers either manually or in their bank accounts. And it became a tradition that, the wages after much hurly-burly and ado, produced in the accounts in the last moments. Then people had no other alternative but to throng into the bank branches and to avail their hard earned money. And the bank authorities and employees as well as the commoners had to suffer the most in such cases. Though our policy makers, the political idols enjoyed happy moments during all those and probably for this they never sought any permanent solution to it.
