AGARTALA, September 30 (TIWN): A discussion forum has been organized on Wednesday at Agartala, on the celebration of the Birth Anniversary of Dasarath Deb.

The programme has been organized with the initiatives of the Kokborok and other minority language rights.

Minister of Tribal Welfare Aghore Debbarma has unfurled the programme by lighting the inaugural lamp.

During the programme, Food, Civil supplies and Consumers Affairs Minister Bhanulal Saha, Chief Executive Member of TTAADC Radhacharan Debbarma, Chairman of TTAADC Dr. Ranjit Debbarma and Chairman of Dasarath Deb Birth Anniversary Celebration committee Niranjan Debbarma were present at the programme.

On December 27, 1945, the Janashiksha Samity was formed with Dasaratha Deb as its president.

In 1950, Deb had joined the undivided Communist party and in 1951 he was elected as first party secretary in Tripura. In 1952 he was elected as MP in Lok Sabha from Tripura. He was re-elected to the LS in 1957, 1962 and 1971.

Dasarath Deb was born to a poor tribal peasant family at a remote village of Ampura under Khowai sub-division on February 2 in 1916.
