KAMALPUR, September 16 (TIWN): The forthcoming festive season of Durga Puja got all set for a grand festivity. Puja organizers, the merchants, the commoners-all got busy in setting plans to make their festival really grand. But amidst this happy mood, the one of the main components of this festivity, the idol-makers found not hoping for a big smile.
Many idol-makers of this subdivision, which got with the profession for last one or two decades or traditionally, expressed their concern over the future of the art.
Mintu Rudrapal who inherited the profession from his father Sunil Rudrapal expressed that the time turned tough enough for the potters here.
The prices of materials increased two or three times from previous years. But the organizers increased their budgets for the idols to a maximum of two to three percent.
Hence they found it really hard to make the art at least not run in loss.
The same tune was heard from another idol-maker Ranjit Bhattacharjee of Fulchari area. He expressed that, the art not ensuring the profits anymore.
For the sake of art and devotion, they found it hard to keep the expenses covered.
