KAMALPUR, SEPTEMBER 09, (TIWN): The extent of teer-gambling reached its climax at Salema and its adjacent Bhatkhauri, Shantirbazar, Baralutma, Avanga areas. The bookies distribute the numbers among the people freely and sometimes even in front of the police. The temptation of getting 80 rupees per 1 rupee lured the people from all strata of the society.
As a result, many families have almost become bankrupt and many others remained on the way.
But the bookies turned affluent enough enjoying luxurious lives with modern amenities. Police though now and then conducted raids against them but it’s too after so-long intervals that it could hardly curb the crime.
However, people alleged Salema Police for negligence and as well for their reluctance over the issues.
