AGARTALA, August 19 (TIWN): Two Indian border guards kidnapped by the neighbouring Bangladesh smugglers on Tuesday were released this evening, said BSF high official to TIWN. According to the other official source the BSF and the Border Guard of Bangladesh (BGB) had finally kicked off flag meeting to get the duo security forces released soon. Till the news filed it has been informed that the flag meeting is continuing at Sonamura Srimantapur Border Out Post (BOP).High officials of the BSF and others from the state are present in the meeting. At the meantime the two BSFs who were kidnapped and later reportedly admitted to Bangladesh Comilla District Army hospital were released this evening.The incident occurred on Tuesday at Sonamura Balerdhepa in Sepahijala district, around 80 km southwest from Agartala bordering Bangladesh Comilla District while the two jawans identified as Mukesh Kumar (34) and Mir Islam (37) were in a routine patrolling along the border areas.The two troopers belong to 14 BSF battalion and are on ad-hoc duty as a new battalion is taking responsibility of the area.
Locals say some cattle smuggling was going on from Tripura to Bangladesh through an unfenced area and when the BSF troopers tried to stop it, they were attacked by a big group of smugglers.
BSF units have been alerted across Tripura that has 857 km border with Bangladesh , a large part of which has been fenced.
