AGARTALA, August 2 (TIWN): As a part of Civic Action programme of BSF on Friday, a total of 19 tribal students from the schools of Deshraj area and Raishabari area under Gandacherra Sub-division which includes Raishabari Residential School, Shukhraicherra J B School and Raishabari HS School have visited the Raj Bhawan to meet Governor Tathagata Roy, confirmed an official here on Saturday.
During the programme, Governor Roy has expressed delight over the presence of the students. He said that many historical moments are related with the palace. Earlier it was a palace for the guest of Tripura Maharaj.
He also stated that the Bhawan has lots of memories of Rabindranath Tagore. During the meeting, Governor urged the students to focus on learning the Hindi language.
He also expressed thanks to the officials of the BSF on taking such fruitful initiatives.
Raj Bhavan is the official residence of the Governor of Tripura. Built in 1917, it is known as the Pushbanta Palace in the pre-independence days.
Raj Bhavan was earlier the Pushbanta Palace. It was built by Maharaja Birendra Kishore Manikya. He selected a spot on a green hillock known as Kunjaban, which stands at a distance of 1 km north of Ujjayanta palace, for its scenic beauty for building a suburban palace for retreat.
