AGARTALA, Aug 2 (TIWN): The depression spawned by Tropical Cyclone Komen coupled with an unusually high tide on Saturday and steady overnight rains left large parts of Agartala struggling on Saturday.

The met office said Agartala had received 87.6mm of rain till 7 am Saturday, and forecast more rain for the next 48 hours in Agartala and adjoining areas.Normal traffic were affected because of waterlogging on their routes. |
Many areas on the outskirts of Agartala are marooned following incessant rains from cyclone Komen .Heavy downpour for the past three days filled major rivers and canals, and water in the river Howrah in Agartala is flowing above the danger mark.The flood water submerged a number of localities and displaced several hundred people.
Few days due to heavy down pour hundreds of people were provided shelter in school buildings. Rescue teams with boats and equipment have been pressed into operation.
The situation at Sri Lanka Basti, a major slum area, is grim and almost all the residents there have been evacuated. Areas such as Hrishi Colony, Katasheula, Joypur and Kashipur are waterlogged.
