AGARTALA / DHAKA, July 22 (TIWN): NLFT chairman Biswamohan Debbarma is under 'huge pressure' to surrender to the Tripura government. His tribal hosts in Bangladesh have been threatened with huge punishment if they continue to shelter the Tripura rebel chieftain.Several Tripuri chiefs in Chittagong Hill Tracts, who have sheltered Biswamohan Debbarma for several years since Sheikh Hasina's government started a massice crackdown on northeast Indian rebel groups, have been told by Bangladesh security agencies to stop helping him."We cannot shelter him anymore because Bangladesh agencies are after us if we do," said a tribal chief at Qanungopara in Khagracherri district of Chittagong Hill Tracts. He was not willing to be named. He told TIWN that the NLFT have some remote bases in Khagracherri and one in Bandarban bordering Myanmar. " Biswamohan is now staying in these remote bases . He cannot take the risk of staying in cities and towns," the Tripuri chief said.Biswamohan Debbarma alias D Baithang is the only top NLFT leader who has eluded both India and Bangladesh agencies over the years. He had a huge safe house in Chittagong dring Begum Khaleda Zia's tenure as Prime Minister when her administration pandered to northeastern rebels. But that safe house in Pahartoli does not exist anymore -- the landlord has rented the place to some locals .
