KAMALPUR, July 20 (TIWN): The dead body of Amlan Sharma of Bhawaliabasti of Ambassa who slipped with the surging fountain of Sanaiya Reang para last afternoon, recovered this morning by the locales. The local youths recovered the body after much ado from a depth of at least 20 feet underwater. Although they demanded an amount of 12, 000 rupees for the same and were given by the parents of Amlan, but the shameless inability of police and fire service to combat such situation left no other way.
Yesterday around 2-30 pm when Amlan and his five friends were busy in merry making then suddenly one of his friends slipped towards the fountain and trying to save him Amlan slipped almost a hundred feet. Then his companions raised a hue and cry.
The locales called on BSF. The fire service was also informed immediately. After a prolonged delay the fire service reached there with the cops. But none had any equipment to combat such situations.
The surging fountain was already flooding the ditch where Amlan slipped into. Then the locales assured the parents of Amlan to find out his body if they were given a sum of 12, 000 rupees. Amlan’s parents agreed. Then the search operation started this morning. And the body was recovered from almost 60 feet underwater. The body was stuck in between two huge rocks.
The paucity of administration in fighting such disaster situation once again showed the reality of disaster management programs in which lakhs of rupees got spent every year.
