AGARTALA, July 16 (TIWN): Demanding to enforce a separate salary fund for the REGA workers to the Central Government, Tripura REGA Karmachari Samannay Samiti on Wednesday staged a sit-in protest near Vivekananda Stadium.
During the protest, President of Tripura REGA Karmachari Samannay Samiti Priyalal Datta demanded the state government and the central government to enforce a separate office for the REGA workers.
They also demanded to take appropriate initiatives for the REGA workers of the country and also demanded that every REGA workers of the country should be dispersed with same salary structure.
The protest started at around 12 pm on Wednesday.
The members of the Samiti complained that the Central Government is not providing any kind of financial help to the REGA workers.
Though in different states of North India, various organizations have raised the eyes of the State Government towards the problems faced by the REGA workers but till day no fruitful initiative has been taken towards the betterment of the workers, said Priyalal Datta.
Mentioning an incident it has been said that despite of following the democratic method of protest from March 9 to March 13 last, the State Government on its agonizing decision deducted five days of salary from around 2700 REGA workers. Criticizing the decision of the State Government, the organization blamed it to be a ruthless decision.
