AGARTALA, July 15 (TIWN): State government has finally implemented the order of High Court of Tripura to install point – to -- point fares along auto permit, a notification in this regard was issued on Tuesday by transport department. The notification stated that the rate chart indicating point to point rate of auto fare to be circulated among people and also to be prominently displayed on hoarding six major points in Agartala.
Every auto – rickshaw must carry the verified fare chart for all the routes regardless of the fact that they has been permitted for particular route. Arrangement should be made so that badges of the drivers are issued from the badge number and so they can be easily identified. In addition to that the auto drivers should wear their name plates showing their names prominently. All auto – rickshaws should be instructed to display the name of the owner / permit holder along with his complete address prominently on the body of the vehicle.
It is mentionable here that the High Court’s Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Deepak Gupta and Justice Subhasish Talapatra has directed to install point-to-point fares along auto-permits. Along with this, the Court has asked the State Government of Tripura to allot distinct uniforms and badges to auto-owners.
Though the State Government and Transport department partially complied with other directions of the Court, yet the ‘point-to-point fares’ dictum was flouted. Thus, a ‘Contempt of Court’ case was filed against both the State Government and the Transport department.
Meanwhile transport department has suspended two lower division clerks – Biplab Das and Sudip Debnath. The action has been taken after a departmental probe. Both were found indulging in unethical and corrupt practices.
