AGARTALA, July 15 (TIWN): locals of Malainagar Gram Panchayat picketed near Jogendranagar Railway Station and staged road blockade condemning erratic distribution of water to their area and gheraud the SDM Manik Lal Das on Tuesday.
Traffic was disrupted for one and half hours on the road. However, as a result of the protest, daily passengers succumbed to suffer into the blockade. Long-route buses and other vehicles stood on both sides of the road.
The resident complained that the water supply was running pathetic for prolonged 12 days. Most of the residents of the area are suffering from irregular supply of water, hampering their daily lives.
The locals demanded that the BDO to visit the area and had to assure in written format that in future there would be no occurrence of erratic situation in the area.
According to the locals, no water supply facilities are available in the locality for long period. As a result they face acute drinking water crisis especially in the dry spell.
Above 90 percent of the residents are dependent on supply water for livelihood. But no water supply facilities has been offered to them by the concerned authority despite several requests, said a local.
However, the concern authorities pacified the agitators and assured them to resume drinking water supply to their ward. Later, the agitators withdrew their agitation.
Local residents complained that so far the concern authorities did not take any step to solve water crisis. The negligence of the authority gripped agitation among the locals resulting road blockage.
