KAMALPUR, July 1 (TIWN): The much hyped and much criticized Putiacharra NWDPRA scam of almost 49, 00, 000 rupees gradually went out of discussion and all hurly-burly ceased. The corrupt officials and party leaders got busy in merry-making. And the amount of the tax-payers gobbled, remained out of reach like many other scams and embezzlements of the state.
The centrally sponsored NWDPRA scheme of Putiacharra costing an amount of 49, 00, 000 rupees and covering almost 260 beneficiaries mostly from the ruling party supporters and workers as per tradition, came into light almost two months ago.
It unearthed after the department replied to the queries of an applicant who sought information through RTI Act. It got revealed that the beneficiaries as mentioned in the departmental documents almost were in dark about the scheme.
More seriously they never knew about the amount as was shown distributed to them in the documents. The media took the matter to hype. The beneficiaries staged protest united irrespective of party identity. And the Agriculture department ordered the SA to complete and submit investigation report within 72 hours. The SA did the same.
A case was filed against the corrupt official. Meanwhile, the CM also looked into the matter. Till then all the activity suddenly subsided. And the corrupt official and his close-aide CPIM Local Secretary now got busy in merry-making trumpeting that, nothing would happen to them. All are eager as well as astonished to witness if it is the true nature of CM’s much trumpeted ‘golden regime’ or not.
