AGARTALA, June 22 (TIWN): On the occasion of 85th birth anniversary of veteran leader of the communist movement late Samar Chowdury, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar released a biography written on lt. Samar Chowdury at Press Club on Monday.
Addressing an eminent gathering of scholars, historians and representatives at the release function of the book, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar stated that Comrade Samar Choudhury was a veteran leader of the communist movement in Tripura. Since he joined the Party in 1952 he had played an important role in developing the Kisan movement and building the Communist Party. He was five times a member of the Tripura Legislative Assembly and also served in the first three Left Front governments as a minister, added Manik.
Chief Minister Manik Sarkar further said that comrade Samar Choudhury served for a long time as the secretary of the state unit of the All India Kisan Sabha. He was elected to the Lok Sabha for the first time in 1998 and was re-elected in 1999. Comrade Samar Choudhury was known for his capacity as an organizer and for his hard and dedicated work for the Party, said Manik.
