AGARTALA, June 15 (TIWN): In a daring attempt of robbery, the Paradise Chowmuhani branch of the United Bank of India (UBI) was robbed late on Saturday or Sunday night as per SDPO Sadar Rajendra Datta.Reportedly, it is so far uncertain that when the robbery at the bank took place as the bank was closed for holiday during the weekend on Saturday and Sunday.A police official said that the bank robbery took place under the cover of darkness. Taking advantage of the darkness, the robbers executed their plan and broke the lock of the bank door. The official further said that the bank robbery was a well thought out plan as the robbers came equipped with all the tools required to carry out the robbery. Reportedly, on Monday morning after opening the bank an employee noticed that one of the banks door was open and the employee immediately informed the police.Getting alarmed the police reached the spot and started investigation.Talking to SDPO Sadar Rajendra data stated that, the robbers mainly attempted to loot the cash from the bank but they failed in looting any cash from the locker. He further said that it is assumed by police that the thieves had mainly attempted to loot the banks cash locker but they failed to loot the cash due to strict security lock. Failing to steal any amount of cash from the bank locker the thieves have disconnected the electric power service and it is assumed that they might have also attempted to damage the functioning of the CCTV camera of the bank.
Apart they have broken some glass panes and window panes inside the bank and have created a mess with the bank documents.
However, police has taken the sample for finger print test from the bank and has also taken the video footage of the CCTV camera and is further investigating the case.
