
Agartala, Sep 5 (TIWN): Power crisis has been a major issue in the North-East over the last many years. All the states have been suffering for this and the issue is now ‘national’.
Three important decisions were taken after the meeting of technical coordination committee of North East Regional Power Committee (NERPC). Member Secretary, NERPC, Mr. S K Mohapatra said that the Committee proposed setting up of SLDC for Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur and Nagaland.
The second proposal was lying of optical fiber line in six other states accept Assam and up gradation of existing system. For upgrading the technical system for entire northeastern region around Rs 816 crores will be required, Mr. Mahapatra said. He also informed that current demand for power in north east is around 1300-1800 MW and the availability of power is 2100 MW. Regarding the consumption of power he said, domestic consumption is on rise but the industrial consumption is decreasing.
