AGARTALA, May 24 (TIWN): Depositors of Basil International Chit fund had attacked the family member of an agent at Belonia sub-division. Though case was lodged against 5 persons, but the accused are still at large.
It is to be mentioning that, on Saturday morning, the depositors of Basil International Chit fund under the leadership of Devi Das had gathered in front of the shop of agent Bikramiditya Paul for collecting their deposited amount. But at that time, Bikramiditya was not available on the spot. In order to douse their anger, depositors had attacked His father Nepal Chandra Paul.
Immediately the second officer of Belonia P.S, Nandan Baidya rushed to the spot and rescued Nepal and admitted him to Belonia Sub-Divisional Hospital. Still now, no trace had been found of Bikramiditya. It is to be mentioned that anger brewed during last couple of days amongst the depositors.
Lakhs of depositors, mostly poor people in villages and small towns, had put their hard-earned money with the company's chit funds lured by the promise of high interest rates. Many offices of the chit fund were damaged by the protestors. Following state-wide protests by depositors and agents against chit funds which are virtually on the verge of collapse, the state government assured that strict action would be initiated.
On the other hand it is worthy to mention here that the government turned their back towards the depositors who lost everything following chit fund scam. The issue is being totally ignored. The chit fund companies who started their business by having a secret understanding with the administration fled away with their entire business. They are beyond trace now, hence, placing the depositors in jeopardy.
