SONAMURA, May 22(TIWN): Smuggling of contraband items and cattle’s across Tripura to Bangladesh has become an everyday issue. Despite the wire fencing across the border lane Sonamura sub-division has become the hub for transport of the prohibited goods.
Locals alleged that in a broad day light the smugglers are seen exchanging arms and weapons from the national land to the land of Bangladesh through the border gate. In the midst of the wire fencing and tight security along sonamura Indo-Bangla border the smugglers continues the illegal transfer of the contraband items along with the domestic cattle’s used for farming especially the cows. The smuggler doesn’t even spare the Ox which is released in the name of God.
However it is mentionable that smuggling of contraband goods includes the import of Chinese pistol, gun, live cartages, along with other arms and weapons which is openly used along side of the Sonamura and Boxonagar border area, added sources.
Sources further claims that, two people identified as Narayan Debnath and Tanu Debnath are allegedly the master mind behind this smuggling game and they are openly doing their business in the area and the police personnel are playing the role of a silent spectator. Even the goods are also sold at Agartala among the smuggling network of the city.
Reportedly, state investigation cell has identified a smuggling network operating in the area but lack of evidence is stopping them from taking any action. A source also says that the Police personal, BSF and concerned authority are playing the role silent viewer, only because their pockets are filled with hefty amount of bribe.
