AGARTALA, May 18 (TIWN): The spectacled monkey (chasma bandar) is facing extinction due to human encroachment in their habitat at Rowa wildlife sanctuary situated in Tripura’s northern part which is the home of the spectacled monkey.
According to sources, earlier, the wildlife Sanctuary sheltered nearly 40-50 bespectacled monkeys and presently the number has decreased to 10-15.
The sources further added that excessive cutting of trees forced the monkeys to flee from the sanctuary in search of their food and apart from the monkeys, the sanctuary has only nearly 8-10 poisonous snakes, the source added.
The Rowa Wildlife National Park, situated in the north of the district, can be approached from Panisagar and is adjacent to the National Highway.
