KAMALPUR, MAY 14 (TIWN): The destructive addiction of Tir gambling gripped the inhabitants of Kamalpur so much, that the youths, aged persons and even housewives got engaged in this gambling. The gambling controlled from Shillong provides with an opportunity to grab 80 rupees for per 1 rupee played. And this situation prevailed here for almost last six to seven years.
But, the police mysteriously got busy in conducting got up raids against the bookies. As a result, the situation went beyond control and the commoners became the worst sufferers. In an effort to remedy the situation and to curb the gamblers, leftist students’ wing SFI Kamalpur divisional committee gave deputation to the Kamalpur Police Station demanding early and stringent action against the gamblers.
They also demanded the police should increase awareness among the common people. Second Officer Shubhrangshu Bhattacharjee received the deputation and assured the leaders to inform the higher up officials about it. SFI divisional leaders Raja Majumder, Subir Deb and others were present in the program.
