Rapist sentenced for ten years in Kanchanpur

Kanchanpur, March 28 (TIWN): Rapist Ranjit Reang s/o Kunjamani Reang of Sakaibari under Anandbazar PS was today sentenced to ten years rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs. 3000. Kanchanpur PS Case No. 87/10 was registered under 376 IPC based on complaint of a victim’s mother that her daughter was raped by accused on the day of Lakshmi Puja.
On the day of Lakshmi Puja, relatives and friends were invited to the house of victim for celebrations.
At night while the victim was sleeping, when Ranjit Reang entered the hut and raped her.
After hearing her hue and cry, when people came the accused managed to flee away. SI Jayanto Das carried out investigation supported by solid testimony of the victim, medical reports and statement of eyewitnesses.
Appreciating the evidence placed before him, and after arguments by Public Prosecutor Swapan Nath Ld. Sessions Judge Dharmanagar Shri S. Chattopadhyay convicted the accused person for ten years behind bars.
